"Colours of Life" was started in the year 2001 to motivate family, friends and associates to contribute time, resources and funds towards paying school fees, uniforms, books, prizes and scholarships to government run primary and secondary schools.
There are over 4000 children whose lives are empowered through holistic education initiatives across 15 schools, with a planned target to support 30 schools over the next few years.
Over the years awareness programmes have been conducted by Colours of Life to highlight the work done in government schools. The trust works in tandem with the donors and government representatives to build infrastructure as well as to improve the quality of education. Ongoing extra-curricular activities such as Sports, Art & Crafts, Life Skill Counselling, English Proficiency Programme, Computer programs have been organised for the all round development of the children.
The “Smart Class” concept has been adopted across schools and regular classes are held in the projector room and practised in the computer room. Special camps are conducted for children during Dasara holidays and summer holidays. Classes are conducted in art and craft, reading, drama, music, classical dance production and baking, besides coaching in swimming and tennis.
In addition to this, the medical needs of every child is carefully researched to find the best possible solution, be it the need for a heart valve repair surgery or hearing aids, or providing spectacles for children who need them, annual dental camps and removal of kidney stones.
To bring about a transformation in 100 government schools, eventually molding them to provide education which is on par of that of private schools. Colours of Life also looks to focus on students extra-circular activities, engage in character development programs, provide vocational training courses, improve spoken and written English skills and more.
To partner with leading educational and vocational agencies that can implement a productive learning programme within existing government schools. Improving the infrastructure of adopted government schools to provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment and to monitor the development of students through robust quantitative and qualitative uniquely engineered mechanisms. Identifying and resolving the limitations of students who are forced to grow up in an unstable home environment.
